Description: The goal of this project was to update the look and feel of the existing Library's web site while adding additional functionally. Within a 3 month period, the project team was able to develop, vet, and deploy a newly designed web site. Significant effort was made to conform to the UNLV's look and feel while still giving the site it's own identity and added functionality.
Description: An on-line version of the paper student job application will be made available this summer. Students are not the only ones to benefit from this new service. Student supervisors will now have the benefit of browsing through applicants via the web instead of thumbing through large 3-ring binders. We expect that this new system will greatly improve the turnaround for hiring students.
Description: Led the effort for renovating the entire lab housed in the WDS area. I selected all new furniture and designed a new layout for the lab. I worked with Systems to replace old workstations with new high-end workstations from Dell. I worked with Systems to purchase and upgrade software for the lab. I coordinated the installation of the new Zeutschel Rare book scanner with the vendor.
Role: Project Manager
Title: Urchin - Web Traffic Analysis Software
URL: Unavailable (behind firewall)
Description: Investigated, evaluated, vetted, and deployed the new web traffic analysis software (Urchin) for the Libaries. Urchin replaced a much more expensive software package (WebTrends) which was under-utilized and running on a desktop computer before it was decommissioned. Urchin is a robust, easy to use, cost effective solution that comes with a license allowing the creation of different profiles that can be tailored for customized results (for example, a customized profile was set up for the Architecture Studies Library set of webpages). Urchin will also eliminate the need for Analog, an open source web log analysis tool formerly supported by Systems.
Role: Project Manager
Title: Netoffice Project Management System
URL: Unavailable (behind firewall)
Description: I instituted an open source project management system by Netoffice. This enables WDS staff to manage and organize multiple projects through one on-line interface. Tasks cans also be delegated by anyone to any other member in the group. Project and task assignments/announcements are sent out via email. There is a client component to the system currently being used by a few outside of WDS.
Description: Utilizing AJAX technology, Library Technologies worked with Research and Instruction to create a new interface to this database. The new interface allows the patron to drill down to a specific database by selecting subject and then media type. In the past, patrons only had access to an A-Z list. This project required changes to the database, an update of the subject pages, and the development of new PHP pages incorporating AJAX.
Role: Project Manager
Title: The Oral History of Public School Principalship
Description: This collection of online transcripts about public school principalship now has a new updated look and added browsing functionality. The previous version of the web site just consisted of static web pages. The transcripts are now housed a database and the visitors to the site can search and sort through the entire collection.
Description: To support the University's Initiatives (NCA, Platform, 2010) planning efforts, I recommended that we utilize MS SharePoint services. I worked with the President's office to successfully plan and deploy SharePoint services to 150+ committee members. MS SharePoint Services enables University Executives and Department Chairs to collaborate and share documents through an intuitive portal environment.
Role: Project manager, installer, technical lead, administrator, site planner, end user support
Description: I was asked to provide a web-based solution that would produce a report of each faculty in the University. The online system collects and compiles a report (Faculty Activity Report - FAR) of a faculty's activities during the calendar year. The system was designed and coded in-house. The database contains information such as faculty load, course evaluation results, research projects, research funding, publications, etc.
Role: Project manager, drafted discovery and design document, hired and managed programming staff
Description: The web-based Listserv at mailer.iit.edu duplicates most of the functionality of a conventional listserv, but with an easy to use web interface. The listserv allows faculty and staff to request accounts online. The listserv currently supports attachments & html e-mails that are sent directly to a list's mailing address (list-name@mailer.iit.edu).
Role: Project manager, system architect, manager of programming staff
Description: In the past, IIT used a paper-based scantron forms for evaluations. The process was labor intensive, time consuming and not flexible enough to ask different questions for different programs.Working together with the Provost office and an overseas vendor, we successfully deployed an online survey system. 60% of the vendor's product was redesigned to fit IIT's business processes.
Role: Project manager, liaison between department and vendor, system architect, quality assurance, end user support, presenter, promoter
Description: In the past, departments often created their own course information database for the web. This often meant outdated and inaccurate information was left available on the web causing much confusion among the faculty and students. We developed a database and a web front end so students and faculty can easily search through courses. It has become an invaluable tool during advising and registration periods.
Role: Project manager, system architect, DBA, promoter
Description: IIT Bazaar is a revolutionary system of placing advertisements on the campus. The site has changed the way people buy stuff at the campus. It is no doubt one of the most useful sites created to benefit the students. We heavily modified an Open Source classifieds application for use at IIT. We also added an authentication component so that only valid students, faculty, and staff are allowed to post to the site.
Role: Project manager, system architect, manager of programming staff, promoter
Description: An online phonebook containing all current students, faculty, and staff. The database is populated with nightly feeds from the Student Information and Human Resource Systems. The database is also used in the mass email utility to target emails. It is the only complete and reliable source for contact information.
Role: Project manager, manager of programming staff
Description: IIT broadcasts its courses to several different TV sites in the Chicagoland area. The previous map, which contained site information, was crude and difficult to update. We replaced the old map with a new map that is driven by an administrative backend tool. Using the tool, an administrator can add, delete, and edit a site graphically via the web. This greatly improved the turnaround time for updates since all the changes are effective in real-time.
Role: Project manager, system architect, manager of programming staff
Description: The University needed an easy way to collect credit card payments for various items and fees. We developed a shopping cart system that allowed the administrator to add and remove items easily without any html or programming knowledge. Departments can add items such as event registration fees and gift contributions. The system is securely linked to the Verisign Payflow Pro system.
Role: Project manager; system architect, end user support
